NEWS — Border Patrol agents apprehend convicted felon illegally in U.S.

Press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection Public Affairs

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector arrested a Mexican man previously convicted of intentionally injuring a child.

On Aug. 10, agents assigned to the Del Rio Station were patrolling west of Del Rio near the Rio Grande when they encountered Francisco Gallegos-Garza, 59, a Mexican national in the United States illegally.

Record checks revealed Gallegos-Garza has an extensive criminal history, including felony convictions for injury to a child with intentional bodily injury and assault.

In 2011, Gallegos-Garza was convicted of felony re-entry after deportation and sentenced to 46 months in prison. He was deported after completing his sentence.

Gallegos-Garza now faces another charge of re-entry after deportation under 8 U.S.C. § 1326, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

“Keeping repeat offenders from entering our borders is key to safeguarding our communities,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony “Scott” Good. “Criminal illegal aliens who repeatedly attempt to enter our country pose a serious risk and our agents stand ready to meet the challenge.”

Fulfilling President Donald J. Trump’s mandate, the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have delivered what the agencies describe as the most secure border in history, stopping criminal aliens and illicit narcotics from entering U.S. communities.
