ZZ Top’s scheduled Friday concert at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino has been canceled following the death of the legendary Texas rock band’s longtime drummer, Frank Beard.
Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino announced the cancellation Tuesday, saying Beard had been a member of ZZ Top since 1969 and offering condolences to his family, bandmates and fans.
“Out of respect for the band during this difficult time, the ZZ Top concert scheduled for Friday, August 21st at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino has been canceled,” casino officials said in a statement.
All ticket holders will receive full credit for their ticket purchases, with the casino saying additional information will be communicated directly to those who purchased tickets.
The casino still plans to have live music Friday night for those who had planned to attend the ZZ Top show. Officials said a free outdoor concert will be held with no cover charge, with details on the replacement performance to be announced.
Beard, 77, joined ZZ Top in 1969 and, along with Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill, became part of one of the most recognizable lineups in American rock music. Despite his surname, Beard was famously the only member of the classic trio who did not typically sport the band’s trademark long beard.
ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and became synonymous with Texas rock through hits including “La Grange,” “Tush,” “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’.”
