Press release from the City of Del Rio Police Department.
A 33-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly assaulting two individuals and resisting officers attempting to detain him.
According to a press release issued by the City of Del Rio Police Department, officers were patrolling the 2100 block of Veterans Boulevard
at approximately 2:14 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, when they observed a physical altercation between two men.
Officers stopped to investigate and immediately separated the individuals. While officers attempted to detain one of the men, identified as Sergio Diaz, an adult woman approached him. Diaz lunged toward the woman and struck her in the nose with his head, causing injury, police said.
Officers took Diaz to the ground in an effort to gain control, but he continued to actively resist detention. He was subsequently subdued and secured in a patrol vehicle. Emergency medical services personnel were requested to evaluate the injured woman.
During the investigation, officers learned that the other man had arrived at the restaurant to pick up Diaz and the woman because they were reportedly intoxicated. The man told officers he attempted to escort them into a vehicle, but Diaz refused to enter, leading to a disturbance during which Diaz allegedly assaulted him.
Officers reviewed video evidence that corroborated the man’s account, according to police.
Diaz was arrested and charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury-family violence and one count of resisting arrest, search or transport.
Diaz was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing and later transferred to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility, pending magistration.
Officers also submitted an application for an emergency protective order on behalf of the affected individuals.
