Val Verde County weather warning through Sunday
From staff reports
Every now and then, weather forecasters predict a weekend that it’s best to just lock yourself inside all weekend and this could be one of those weekends.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Val Verde County beginning early Saturday and continuing into Sunday as a strong cold front moves into the region.
The National Weather Service has issued the watch due to the increased likelihood of freezing rain and icy conditions Saturday into Sunday, with temperatures dropping well below normal and wind chills in the teens at times, making travel hazardous on area roadways and bridges.
Friday’s forecast calls for a chance of showers late in the day, with temperatures falling into the 30s overnight.
As the storm system arrives Saturday, rain and freezing rain are likely, with a slight chance of sleet in spots. Saturday night will remain cold, with continued chances of a wintry mix and lows near the 20s.
Sunday should see partly sunny skies but still cold conditions with highs in the 30s and lingering wind chill impacts.

The 830 Times will work to keep you informed of any developments, including road closures.
