The opening night of the George Paul Memorial Xtreme Bull Riding event belonged to Grady Young, who battled a field of 10 in the short round to walk away with top honors for the night.
Young posted an 88.5-point ride to take the top spot Friday on Pete Carr Pro Rodeos bull Richard Cranium, earning the bulk of the night’s payout and putting himself in strong position heading into Saturday’s final round.
However, it wasn’t Young’s best ride of the year, as the Saskatchewan, Canada, native scored a 91.5 earlier in the year at the Calgary Stampede.
Before the sun rose Saturday, most of the riders were on the road to San Antonio to catch flights to California for competitions later that night, while about 40 others were headed to Del Rio from California events to compete Saturday.
Headlining Saturday night’s roster are former GPMXBR champions Trevor Reiste and reigning champion Tristen Hutchings, standout rookie Noah Lee and current top-ranked bull rider Jake Gardner.
In addition, Saturday night will also feature the 2025 PRCA third-place Bucking Bull of the Year, Richard Slam, from Pete Carr Pro Rodeo.
Event organizers said $30 general admission tickets are available along with a handful or $40 reserved seats.
