More details have been released regarding the fatal accident that occurred on US Highway 277 earlier this afternoon.
According to a preliminary report released by the Texas Department of Public Safety Monday evening, a red Dodge Ram pickup was being pursued on the highway when it collided head-on with a white Ford F-150 near mile marker 806 in Val Verde County.
Eight people, all passengers in the Dodge truck, were confirmed as fatalities.
The accident shut down the highway for several hours as investigators began the work of piecing together what happened and to allow for the removal of victims and vehicle debris.
The identities of those killed in the collision have not yet been released.
