From the City of Del Rio’s Public Relations Department
The Del Rio City Council unanimously approved the City of Del Rio’s operating budget and property tax rate for fiscal year 2021-22 Tuesday, Sept. 28.
Council’s approval ensures the city’s property tax rate will decrease from $.7209 to $.7070 per $100 valuation and includes the addition of four new full-time city positions.
The fiscal year 2021-2022 budget took effect Oct. 1, 2021 and will remain in effect through Sept. 30, 2022.
“I am extremely proud of the city of Del Rio Finance Department for all of its hard work to push forward the fiscal year 2021-22 Budget. We are confident this budget tackles issues Del Rio residents raised in the latest city survey conducted last year,” stated Interim City Manager John Sheedy. “We are grateful for our residents’ input on how we can build a better Del Rio, and we are committed to continue using public feedback in our efforts to make Del Rio the best community in Texas. This new budget reflects that commitment.”
The fiscal year 2021-2022 budget calls for the addition of four new full-time positions. Among the full-time positions that will be added are main street manager, grant writer, code enforcement officer, and a heavy equipment operator.
Additionally, the fiscal year 2021-22 Budget increases the neighborhood services operations budget, including the addition of needed equipment for brush pick up and renovations at the animal control facility.
Within the capital improvement budget, the city council has allocated funds for the completion of Alderete Lane reconstruction and $2,400,000 for various street reconstruction projects. Also, a total of $4.3 million is budgeted for refuse and landfill improvements.
“The city of Del Rio’s fiscal year 2021-22 budget makes clear it is a balanced budget and that our city is financially sound, even as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to create challenges for all local governments,” stated Finance Director Alberta Barrett. “I am proud to lead a team of exceptional individuals who have worked tirelessly on this fiscal year budget and the city council’s support during the budget process.”
