City officials confirmed Friday the city’s trash collection and landfill contractor has filed a bankruptcy petition.
“The city is aware of the bankruptcy declaration filed by Red River Waste Solutions, L.P. (“Red River”) and has been working through concerns with Red River for the past several weeks,” reads a press statement on the situation emailed by City Public Relations Manager Anita P. Mariner earlier this afternoon.
“The city’s priority is the prevention of any lapse in waste collection services for resident and efforts are underway to ensure continued waste collection services. In the meantime, waste collection concerns and questions should continue to be directed to Red River at 830-775-2715. If anyone has concerns with Red River services, please contact the city of Del Rio services support hotline at 830-774-8616,” Mariner’s press statement concludes.
Mariner said Red River Waste Solutions and the city have had contracts from February 2009 to January 2014, from February 2014 to January 2021 and from February 2021 to January 2026.
A news report from WOWO radio station in Fort Wayne, Ind., notes that Red River “is blaming the COVID-19 pandemic for the company’s financial downturn.”
Red River also provides trash collection services to the city of Fort Wayne.
