Del Rio’s premier community theater group is gearing up for its first production of the year, but they’re looking for a few good voices.
Auditions for The Upstagers’ first play of 2022, “First Date,” will take place Sunday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Firehouse, 120 E. Garfield. The play, described as a rock/pop musical, features a cast of seven, but the two main roles are those of Aaron, a 30-something uptight investment banker, and Case, a 30-something artist. Aaron’s role is designed for that of a tenor while Casey is designed for a Mezzo-soprano.
While you don’t have to be in your 30’s to audition for the roles, the Upstagers do encourage folks who plan on auditioning to come in with a rock/pop singing style and not be afraid to belt out a tune.
There are plenty of other roles available as well. Those roles include the following:
Woman No. 1, who is responsible for Grandma Ida/Aaron’s Mother/Lauren
Woman No. 2, who is responsible for Google girl/girl with a megaphone/Aaron’s ex-fiance Allison
Man No. 1, who is responsible for Gabe/Edgy British Guy
Man No. 2, who is responsible for Reggie/Edgy Rocker Guy, Aaron’s Future Son
Man No. 3, who is responsible for Waiter/Therapist/Casey’s Father
To learn more about these roles, and what is required of them, please visit the Upstagers’ official Facebook page – facebook.com/The-Upstagers – and you can read more on each character.
For those interested in auditioning, the music is available on YouTube as well as Spotify.
If you want to be a part of the Upstagers family but don’t feel confident enough under the spotlight, there are also spots available for lighting, stage crew, make-up artists and set builders.
“No experience is needed for any role whether on stage or in the wings! We’ll guide you through everything. You just have bring your will to learn new experiences!” the Upstagers said in a release regarding “First Date.”
Questions can be directed to the Upstagers via email, which is available on the group’s official website, www.upstagers.org, or you can message them on Facebook.
The play is set to hit the stage March 25 and 26 and April 1 and 2.
