Del Rio, Texas – On April 23, 2022 a Del Rio Police Department officer responded to the 100 block of Harris Drive for a possible child custody issue.

Upon arrival contact was made with the biological mother of a 5-year-old child who claimed her ex-husband, identified as Jose Casarez, had taken their child without her knowledge. The mother reported Casarez was not mentally stable, and the child could be in danger. A full vehicle description was provided to police and the information was entered into the department’s license plate reader database. Casarez was entered into the TCIC/NCIC database, and a CLEAR alert was issued.

The morning of April 25, 2022 the Del Rio Police Department Criminal Investigation Division was contacted by Coweta County Sheriff’s Office located in Newnan, Georgia to inform them that Casarez had been intercepted in their county due to an alert of the license plate reader. Casarez was detained pending mental evaluation and the child was safely taken into custody pending the custodial release to the biological mother.
