Award-winning photographer Ron Castle, of Del Rio, will exhibit his awesome photos at Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery, located at 100 W. Greenwood for the First Friday Art Walk June 3.
The artist reception will begin that evening from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and refreshing beverages being served.
I have known Ron for many years and exhibited art with Ron’s wife, Sara and her exquisite quilts, through the Artist’s Nest back in the 90’s. They’ve been such great and wonderful friends throughout all these years.
Ron earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design and Illustration from the University of Arizona in 1969, but his “focus” has been on photography since buying his first 35mm camera in 1970. The subject matter has varied over the years from portraiture to landscape, architecture to wildlife, but Ron’s gift for composition and color has always stood out no matter what he’s photographed.
Since taking up digital photography in the late 90’s, Ron has been energized by the endless possibilities the digital processes have allowed, and he’s recognized by his peers as a versatile and prolific professional.
After joining Professional Photographers of America (PPA) in 2012, Ron earned his professional photographer certification as well as his Master Photographer degree in the shortest possible time allowed by the PPA. He’s received numerous awards for his work throughout his career, but one of his achievements stands out. In 2015, as a first-time entrant in the International Print Competition, Ron received PPA’s Diamond Photographer of the year award. He was one of 35 photographers to receive this award in the PPA International Print Competition in Atlanta, GA, out of over 2,000 professional entries! All four of his print entries were accepted into PPA’s prestigious Loan Collection.
Ron has lectured and written about digital photography over the past few years, and he’s been named Professional Photographers of San Antonio’s Organization’s Photographer of the Year three years in a row! Ron has been featured in Texas Photographer Magazine and his architectural work was the cover photo for the publication. In this year’s annual print competition for the Texas Professional Photographers Association, Ron received numerous awards and honors, including “Best Portrait of a Man” and “Best Illustrative Photo”. His entries also made Ron one of the only six competitors to receive the highest honor of the competition – “Diamond Photographer”.
Ron is a full-time real estate photographer here in Del Rio, but the work he will show at Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery during the June 3 First Friday Art Walk will be his recent personal projects of compositing and digitally painting various subjects. I feel so blessed to have Ron’s photography available for sale and viewing for the entire month of June.
